Eduardo Cherchi, artistically known as Ed Zero is an Argentine multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, producer and sound engineer based in Madrid, Spain.
He was born in Buenos Aires in 1997 and moved to Spain when he was a few years old. Music aroused his interest as a child, both artistically and technically, being very self-taught at first and completing his classical guitar studies at the Teresa Berganza Professional Conservatory of Music and at the same time, Sound and Image Engineering, at the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
From a young age he began to write his first compositions, always close to rock and metal styles, with various influences. He also wrote some experimental classical and electronic compositions during his time as a music student, such as The Spiral of Life (clarinet, guitar and electronics), Étude in a Cage (piano), The Grand Finale (oboe) or Sketch Evolution.
His music could be tagged as crossover prog, a mix of progressive rock with other tendencies such as art rock. Some common elements can be found in his style: a blues-influenced and melodic guitar style, classic rock-inspired riffs, acoustic songs, atmospheres and ambients, and some complex sections typical of progressive rock and metal.
Ed Zero gathers influences from progressive rock from the 70s to the present, going through blues, psychedelia from the 60s, hard rock and the most modern metal. Among his greatest references, he cites Pink Floyd, Neal Morse (Spock's Beard, Transatlantic), Mike Portnoy, Dream Theater, Metallica, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan... among others.
He has released three full-length albums: Ten: the Trip (2018), an instrumental long piece composed for a live performance at Polo Festival organized by Radio Relativa, and Odyssey of Thoughts (2021), a concept album about a person who is lost in his thoughts, full of sadness and darkness, and tries to find the light in his life, making an analogy between that process of change of the protagonist and the course of a day and his new double album Introspection / Retrospection (2023)
In addition to his main project, he has released under the name Ed Zero's Caffeine at Midnight, two albums Caffeine at Midnight in 2020 (originally released as Ed Zero) and When Poetry Meets Blues in 2022. Both albums more focused on blues and americana.
Ed Zero has released a new double album titled Introspection/Retrospection on August 25th 2023.
Two sides, two different vibes, two worlds of progressive music.
You may find heavy songs, acoustic ballads, art rock influences and two epic long songs.
"Introspection / Retrospection follows the path of my album Odyssey of Thoughts. Although it's not a concept story you will find recurring themes like sadness, melancholy, nostalgia and dreams, always with a positive and encouraging message. It's divided into two symmetrical parts. Each one has a theme and sound in common, and their structures consist of a long song and several short songs."
